![]() One of the 2015 Indian Paintbrush Award nominees, I found Legend of the Ghost Dog (Lexile: 730; Interest Level: Grades 3-6) to be much better of a story than I originally thought. When Tee and her younger brother Jack move to Alaska for 2 weeks to stay with their dad while he researches a book, Tee looks forward to discovering the Alaskan wilderness with her dog, Henry. She does not, however, expect to uncover a mystery, get stuck in a blizzard, and make a new friend. While taking a walk one day, Henry sees something in the bushes that spooks him, but all Tee sees is a shadow. Upon more investigation, and the help of an unlikely friend, Tee begins to research some of the history of sled dogs from the area, trying to determine to which sled dog the mysterious ghostly shadow belongs. When Tee, Jack, and her friend get stuck in an unexpected blizzard, help comes from an unlikely place. Although I am not so much a fan of ghost stories, I did find this one to be rather exciting and I got caught up in the history of Alaskan sled dogs and the peril the children find themselves in. Fans of dog stories and mysteries will enjoy this book. (208 pages)
